Tooth Decay

Treatment

To treat a cavity, the dentist removes the part of the tooth that is decayed. The missing part of the tooth is then replaced with another material. The 2 most frequently used materials for treating teeth are dental amalgam and composite fillings.

Dental amalgam

The amalgam is greyish in colour. It is the ideal material with which to repair teeth at the bottom of the mouth because it seals completely, and is durable and resistant to wear.

Composite fillings

Composite fillings come in various colours, allowing the dentist to choose one that is closest to the natural colour of your teeth. Composite fillings can be used for aesthetic treatment of teeth both in the front and back of the mouth.

Depending on the location and depth of the cavity, as well as costs associated with treatment of the tooth, your dentist may suggest other treatments.
